Lt. Gov. Steele Endorses Bissett for Anne Arundel County
Executive
Annapolis, MD – Saying "It's time for new leadership in Anne
Arundel County," Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele officially
endorsed Phil Bissett for Anne Arundel County executive
today at the State Republican Party Headquarters in
Annapolis.Lt. Gov. Steele spoke spontaneously and at
length about his long friendship and respect for Mr.
Bissett, a former State delegate from Mayo, as he was
building his political career. Lt. Gov. Steele is currently
campaigning to represent Maryland in the United States
Senate. The two worked together within Gov. Ehrlich's
administration, where Mr. Bissett most recently served as
director of the MARC train system.
"No person can make a great difference working all by
himself. To move government forward, you need teamwork, and
the skills and real-world experience to lead that team
successfully. That's why I'm here today to endorse a proven
leader and a man of action, my friend Phil Bissett, for Anne
Arundel County executive," said Lt. Gov. Steele in a written
statement.
He also noted Mr. Bissett's long record of community and
public service and leadership in the Republican Party.
"As chair of the Anne Arundel Delegation to the General
Assembly, Phil always operated with the taxpayers' best
interest in mind. And like me, he comes from humble roots
and is a dedicated family man," said Lt. Gov. Steele.
Mr. Bissett was the Republican nominee for Anne Arundel
County executive in 2002. As a delegate, he served on the
powerful House Judiciary Committee. He received numerous
awards for his legislative service, especially in the areas
of law enforcement, victim's rights, and curbing lawsuit
abuse.
Lt. Gov. Steele also praised the "Bissett Brigade," the
more than 200 volunteers working for Mr. Bissett's campaign
countywide. A number of them were present for the event,
holding Bissett and Steele placards in the standing-room
only crowd.
"Our two campaigns have exhibited great teamwork, working
side by side together out on the campaign trail, along with
Gov. Ehrlich's team," he said.
Mr. Bissett thanked the lieutenant governor for his
support and pledged to continue to work closely with Gov.
Ehrlich and Lt. Gov. Steele at the state and federal levels.
"We've got the 'BEST' team to lead Anne Arundel County
into the future: the Bissett, Ehrlich and Steele team," said
Mr. Bissett.
