Bissett Offers Reward for Info on Sign
Thefts
Annapolis, MD, Aug. 8, 2006
-- Phil Bissett announced today that his campaign would
offer a reward for information leading to the arrest and
conviction of anyone caught stealing or vandalizing his
campaign signs.
The Republican
candidate for county executive said his reward would be the
equivalent of one month of the recipient's BGE bill, plus 72
percent. The figure represents the rate hike county
residents are expected to ultimately bear to meet market
rates as a result of the General Assembly's vote to
deregulate the utility company in 1999.
Two of Mr. Bissett's
opponents in the county executive's race, Dels. John Leopold
and David Boschert, voted for deregulation. They voted
against Gov. Ehrlich's "better deal" solution during the
2006 legislative session. In the special session that
followed, they flip-flopped, first voting for the
Democrat-led final plan that hikes rates and imposes fees
over a 10-year recovery period, then against it.
Mr. Bissett estimates
that twenty percent or more of his campaign signs have been
stolen and have had to be replaced. Large campaign signs
cost $75 to $90 each.
"Replacing signs is a
drain on the energy and financial resources of this
campaign," Mr. Bissett said. "We intend to prosecute anyone
who is caught stealing our campaign signs."
